Frequently Asked Questions

When can I enroll my child at RRUMNS? 

  • The first day to enroll your child for the 2024-2025 school year is on December 1st, 2023. New and current families can start registering on December 1st (see below).

  • Current students, siblings of RRUMNS students, former families and RRUMC church members have advance registration processing starting on Friday, December 1st, 2023.

  • Current families and church members have one month's priority in registering.

  • Forms for new families will then be held in the order they are received and processed on January 8th, 2024.

  • There is a $80.00 Registration fee due at the time of enrollment.

  • All registration is on-line this year, with credit card payment. They will be processed in the order they are received.

  • Children can be enrolled throughout the year if there is space in the program.

Is there an interview or assessment process to enroll at RRUMNS?

  • We welcome all children ages 32 months (Pre- 3s) - 6 years old.

  • If your child has specific delays or behavioral concerns, you are welcome to email or call the Directors, Aaryn Holland and Margery Wanosik, with specific questions. rrumns@gmail.com or (440) 331-4015.

How old does my child have to be to enroll at RRUMNS?

  • All children need to be potty trained in order to attend RRUMNS.

  • Pre- 3s class: Turns 3 years old October 1st, 2024 through March 1st, 2025

  • 3 yr old classes: 3 years old by September 30th, 2024 (Rocky River District cut-off date)

  • Pre K classes: 4 years old by September 30th, 2024 (can be 5 turning 6 also)

Do you have Tours?

  • We will have tours on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons at either 11:45 AM if you would like to see our program. Please call our Directors, Aaryn Holland and Margery Wanosik at (440) 331-4015 or email rrumns@gmail.com to arrange for an observation tour.

What curriculum does RRUMNS follow? 

  • We have a teacher and staff created play-based curriculum that has been developed over many years by our team of qualified professionals.

  • The play-based curriculum was created with developmentally appropriate practices at its core.

  • RRUMNS follows the Ohio Learning Standards developed by the Department of Education.

Do you teach academics or is it just ‘play’?

  • Your child will learn through play-based learning at RRUMNS.

  • We build our activity times around the concepts we are teaching.

  • There is intentional planning behind the ‘play’ throughout the school day.

  • We focus on the well-being of your child and the joy of learning.

What does a ‘typical day’ look like?

  • The daily schedule is flexible enough to provide adaptability.

  • It is structured enough to provide predictability for the children.

  • We want them to view their school as a safe and comforting place, where they know what to expect and when to expect it.

Pre-3s CLASSES - A Typical Day

  • 9:00 a.m. - Arrival: Hang coat & tote in cubby, wash hands and greeting

  • 9:10-9:30 a.m. - Morning meeting, helper chart and craft

  • 9:30- 9:55 a.m. - Large muscle room for individual and small group activities, Outdoor play 

  • 10:15- 10:30 a.m. - Snack (provided by school, approved by allergy parents)

  • 10:30- 11:05 a.m. - Story time, Free choice time: easel, creative play

  • 11:05- 11:15 a.m. - Prepare for departure: coat, tote, head to hallway benches

THREE-YEAR OLD CLASSES - A Typical Day

  • 9:00 - 10:10 a.m. - Morning meeting, Choice Time: craft, easel, creative play, individual and small group activities

  • 10:10 - 10:15 a.m. - Clean up 

  • 10:15 - 10:30 a.m. - Group time: songs, stories, finger plays, discussion, show and tell 

  • 10:30 - 10:45 a.m. - Snack  (provided by school, approved by allergy parents)

  • 10:45 - 11:05 a.m. - Outdoor play, large muscle room 

  • 11:05 - 11:15 a.m. - Prepare for departure

PRE-K CLASSES  - A Typical Day

  • 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. - Morning meeting, Choice Time: outdoor play, large muscle room, craft, painting, individual and small group activities 

  • 10:00 - 10:10 a.m. - Clean up 

  • 10:10 - 10:30 a.m. - Group time: songs, finger plays, games

  • 10:30 - 10:40 a.m. - Snack (provided by school, approved by allergy parents)

  • 10:40 - 11:05 a.m. - Small groups: story, music, games,  show and tell, library, concept development, discussions, and miscellaneous activities

  • 11:05 -11:15 a.m. - Prepare for departure 

Who provides snacks each day at school?

  • All snacks are provided by the preschool.

  • If your child has allergies or dietary specifications, please discuss food options with the Director.

  • We are a tree nut and peanut free preschool.

Do you have gross motor time each day?

  • Yes, we take a brief, outdoor recess when weather permits.

  • On days that outdoor play is not provided due to cold or rainy conditions, we will include a time for indoor gross motor activities. (eg. bikes, climber, balls, etc.)

  • Please send your children with the proper clothing so they may be comfortable and safe whenever we exercise.

  • Because of our active program, play clothes are strongly recommended and rubber-soled shoes are required.

Do you go on field trips?

  • The Pre- 3s and 3 year old classes do not go on any field trips.

  • The Pre-K classes often bring in outside instructors. The Library Lady, Mrs.Kneubel (Science teacher), and other specialists are invited to supplement the curriculum we are teaching at that time. We occasionally take walking field trips throughout the year.

What is the staff/child ratio in the classrooms?  

  • Our staff/child ratio is much lower than required by the State of Ohio.

  • Pre- 3s class: Ratio is 2 teachers to 10 students

  • 3 yr old classes: Ratio is 1 teacher to 8 students

  • Pre K classes: Ratio is 1 teacher to 12 students

  • We also have an additional aide for the Pre K classes

Is RRUMNS licensed? 

  • Yes, RRUMNS is licensed by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

  • The state makes annual visits to verify we are in compliance.

  • All licensing records are available for review at the preschool.

What are the staff qualifications of the RRUMNS teachers?

  • All of our teachers have Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in education or related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Teachers are required to have teaching experience in the early childhood field.

  • All staff meet the state requirements according to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services including: reference checks, fingerprinting and background checks, and test negative for T.B.

  • All staff receives training in CPR, First Aid, Communicable Diseases, and Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention.

  • Staff completes continuing education hours yearly to stay current with current teaching practices and research.

Is there religious instruction at RRUMNS?

  • Our curriculum is enhanced with faith-based lessons by RRUMNS and church staff.

How is the monthly tuition calculated?

  • Tuition is established as an annual fee divided into six equal payments for the convenience of the parents.

  • The six payments are due on the first day of the following months: May 1st for the September payment, October, November, February, March, and April. Tuition can also be paid by semester or full year payments.

How can parents get involved at RRUMNS? 

  • We have many special events in which parents and family members are invited to attend: Special Person’s Day, PJs and Popcorn (whole family), a Spring Show, and Family Picnic.

  • We also have a small committee of volunteer parent committee members.

  • We invite parents with special talents or fun professions to come talk to our students. They especially love family members who play an instrument, work with animals, or have unique forms of transportation!

  • We really look forward to getting to know all of you!

What can we do to help prepare our child for preschool?

  • Remember, you know your child best!

  • Spend lots of quality time together.

  • Read to your child daily and enjoy each other’s company.

  • You can also come to the RRUMNS outdoor playground in the summer to play and become familiar with the school grounds.

  • Talk to your child about preschool and emphasize the fun and the friendships.

  • We want this to be a positive experience for you and your child!
