Reflections by Rev. Dan Bogre
Dear Friends and Family of RRUMC,
I pray this message finds you blessed as we continue our journey through the season of Lent.
Throughout these weeks, Pastor Paul and I have been using Susan Robb’s book “Remember: God’s Covenants and the Cross” - along with the Scriptures she highlights - to guide us from the ashes of Ash Wednesday to the joy of the empty tomb on Easter morning. It has been a rich and meaningful journey so far, and I hope you have been walking it with us.
Robb reminds us that “throughout biblical history, humanity consistently breaks covenant with God, and God inevitably responds by rescuing and redeeming.” Again and again, God could have given up on His creation - but He never does. God continues to see us as redeemable, and because of that, He continually ushers in His rescue plan for humanity.
Lent, Holy Week, and Easter reveal God’s ultimate rescue plan - His once and for all act of redemption through Jesus Christ. In Christ, God goes all in for us hoping that, as we receive His Son as Lord and Savior, we will choose to go all in for Him. This season invites us to remember every moment when God refused to abandon us, even when we were tempted to abandon Him.
I don’t know where you find yourself this Lenten season. Perhaps God feels distant. Perhaps you feel as though you’ve stepped away once again and broken covenant. But I do know where God is. God is already at work, orchestrating His rescue plan for you.
Remember how many times God has done this - from the moment He first brought order out of chaos until now. If God has been rescuing His people throughout all of history, He will surely do the same for you.
Church, remember. May you experience a holy and blessed Lent.
Peace and blessings,
Rev. Dan
