Children's Ministries - Vacation Bible School

by Quinn Bennett at QBennett@rrumc.org

This year in Vacation Bible School we went to Alaska where we learned how to trust God in a very wild world.

It couldn’t have fit our world more perfectly as we all learn to live in harmony, even when the world is pushing us not to.

The lessons learned couldn’t have been more perfect.

  • Day 1: When we wonder…we can trust Jesus.

  • Day 2: When we feel alone …we can trust Jesus.

  • Day 3: When we feel powerless…we can trust Jesus.

  • Day 4: When we need hope…we can trust Jesus.

  • Day 5: When we need help…we can trust Jesus.

We hosted 102 children, 42 youth, and 27 adult volunteers at the church the week of VBS. It was a busy and active VBS this year.

God was very active in the hearts of our children during the week. By Tuesday, they had already shown me what songs we would sing on Sunday.

VBS brought excitement this year like I have never seen in my years in charge of VBS. Through the impressive help of Andre Bruwer and his amazing and fun style leading the opening and closing sections, he had the kids laughing and knowing our God is a God full of fun. A special thanks to Molly Ryan, who filled in the week before when our music person had to step down, I could not have done this without her and her musical gifts given by the God above. She pulled off special requests that made our Jesus day just that much more incredible. So, thank you to both of you for using God’s gifts to lead so many of us closer to Christ.

This year brought hardships that worked hard to drain the joy from my own heart. With that said, I want to take a moment to say thank you more than any other year. This was a year that I needed the church community to step up more than any other. You showed up like one big hug to make it all happen. When I left due to health problems the week before, our church family stayed without me to make sure it all got done. Sunday, I sent people away because we had finished ahead of schedule.

Thanks to all of you who followed God’s call this week to show me when I wonder, feel alone and powerless, need hope and help, that there is a community that stands up and reminds even their leadership when they are running low that we can still trust Jesus.
