Reflections by Rev. Dan Bogre
Dear Friends and Family of RRUMC,
Happy Summer everyone! There are so many things that tell me that summer has finally arrived.
The easy ones are the warm temperatures and the humidity. The Guardians are on TV almost every night and the sun doesn’t set until after 9:00pm for the next few weeks. I know that there are certain things that signal to all of you that summer is finally here.
Last night, as I was leaving the Trustees meeting, a couple of our faithful souls were setting up for our first “Cruisin’ River Car Cruise” of the 2025 summer season. When I saw this happening, it reminded me of what the apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9: “Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”
At RRUMC, we have so many different ministries, not to keep busy, but to help people meet Jesus Christ in the midst of their story. Paul’s words were, “To win as many as possible,” and “By all possible means I might save some.” We do the car cruises for those same reasons. Someone may not be ready to come into the sanctuary, chapel, or Beacon Hall on a Sunday morning, but they are ready to bring their 1966 Pontiac GTO into our parking lot on a Wednesday night. When they do, it gives all of us as people of RRUMC the chance to tell them about the church, give them a tour of the building, or simply listen to their story.
I invite all of you to please attend all or most of our 6 car cruises over the summer to be a smiling, welcoming face to people who may not have any idea how much Jesus loves them.
We will use a car cruise to help people meet Jesus Christ in the midst of their story. The food and music are incredible too. The car cruises this year are always on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:00pm in our main parking lot. The dates are June 25, July 9 and 23, and August 13 and 27. Please try to attend as many as possible to help us by all means save some and to win as many as possible through our love and hospitality. Have a safe and blessed summer!
Peace and Blessings,
Rev. Dan
